Personality:For much of the series, Luke is portrayed as nothing but a villain. He's manipulative, cunning, and willing to sacrifice those around him if it means his goals will succeed, and as a son of Hermes, he has a skillset that really lends itself to these traits. He can open locks with a touch and can steal without people noticing. But that side of him, the villainous, conniving side, while definitely an important aspect of his character, doesn't completely define who he is, because while he goes about his goals in the completely wrong way, he's got good intentions.
Growing up, Luke's life was a struggle. His mother was mentally unstable from trying to host the oracle, and his father, the god Hermes, was very much absent, which was the source of a lot of bitter feelings, especially after he ran away and had to constantly battle monsters to survive. He saw first hand the injustice of the gods through Halcyon Green, someone that had been unfairly punished for a good deed. That, Thalia being turned into a tree, and him failing the quest he received at Camp Half Blood all added to his resentment, bringing it to a boiling point. So when Kronos contacted him through his dreams, Luke jumped at the opportunity to work with the Titan and against Olympus. Luke is very much driven by his hatred for the gods and how they treat their children, and he's willing to do anything--even turn against the Camp and his friends--to change the way things are, and give the gods what he thinks they deserve.
Speaking of his friends, they're the only one's that really seem to make him reconsider his methods. Thalia and Annabeth were the only people he really connected with after he left home. He considers them family, and looked out for them for a long time. After he joins Kronos that dynamic changes. He becomes their enemy by virtue of turning against the gods. But that doesn't mean he's okay with harming them. He had planned to use the golden fleece to turn Thalia back into a person, continually tries to turn them to his side, and whenever he's forced to put them in a tough spot or in harms way, he genuinely seems to regret it. Until the battle on Mt. Tamalpais, anyway. Thalia kicks him off a cliff and he ends up feeling betrayed by her. After that he approaches Annabeth and tries to get her to run away with him, so they both can escape the mess he helped create, but when she rejects his offer he feels betrayed. He stops trusting people, closes himself off, and completely accepts his fate to become Kronos' vessel, even though it will literally kill him. Luke feels his two most important people have abandoned him, and so he puts them aside and focuses only on the task at hand; on destroying olympus.
Aside from his bitter feelings, Luke has a lot going for him. He's very charismatic, and as seen in the first book, a lot of people liked him because of it. He knows how to manipulate and get people to look up to him, and he's able to put on a good face for those around him. Percy doesn't suspect a thing when he gets to know Luke, and it isn't until Luke reveals his plan that people even realize he'd turned against the camp. He can be friendly and welcoming when it suits him, or when he's around those he cares about.
He's also got a lot of confidence. Luke survived on his own for a long time, and was the best sword fighter at Camp Half Blood. So he's very confident in himself and his abilities. He's also very sure Kronos and his army will win against Olympus, and backs the titan confidently. Because of his strength and ego, Luke doesn't like being pitied or feeling like he's being looked down on. This is why his failed quest hits him so hard.
Despite his support of the Kronos, and his goal of overthrowing Olympus, Luke is a hero at heart. His methods are wrong, but he's looking for a change for demigods. He wants change in how the Gods look and act towards demigods, because he sees them as cold and unfeeling towards their children. He just lets his bitterness, and his anger cloud his judgement, and ends up rooting for the wrong side.
As far as Teleios is concerned, Luke won't take kindly to being dragged in and used in a bet, it'll remind him too much of the gods back home. He probably won't feel bad about most of his debt, the only exceptions being the ones that negatively affected Thalia and Annabeth. ( He doesn't trust them or believe in them, but he still does care about them. )
Powers/Abilities:
ADHD; Like all demigods, Luke is hardwired for fighting, so he's restless and easily distracted in everyday life.
Dyslexia; His mind is also hardwired to read ancient greek.
Lock Manipulation/Intuition; Being a son of Hermes, Luke can unlock things with a touch, and he can sense when there are traps or curses attached to a lock. He can remove those, too, if he concentrates hard enough, but it's very taxing.
Enhanced theft; He can steal things without people noticing.
Appearance: Luke is tall with short, sandy-blonde hair. Normally a pretty good looking guy, as of Titan's Curse he's started to look sickly and pale, with grey streaks from holding up the sky. He's got a scar from below his eye to his chin. I'll be using Alex Pettyfer as a PB.
Samples:Actionspam Sample:So what, we're nothing but a gamble to these people? [ He scoffs, obviously unhappy with this arrangement. ] I can't say that sits well with me, but hey, maybe it's not as bad as it looks.
[ He seriously doubts it. ]
I would ask what's going on, but I'm sure you get those kinds of questions all the time. So I'll try to keep it interesting instead, spice things up a little. [ He flashes a smile. ] I've been hearing a lot about debts around here, and it's got me wondering: Is anyone even close to working theirs off?
Prose Sample:Luke is done getting caught up in other people's games. He has important things to do, things he can't just up and walk away from. Being here gets in the way, and he has to wonder what the consequences of being here will have. Would Kronos look for another host, or had he been cast back down into Tartarus when Luke was brought here? Would Olympus still fall?
He wanders around aimlessly, taking in his surroundings. He's irritated, angry. He doesn't want to be some chess piece in another cosmic game. He's done being used. "Hey, what can you tell me about this place?" He asks whoever he runs into first. He wears a smile, burying his feelings deep. He has to make allies, here, if he wants to survive or find a way out. Besides, allies are easy. Especially when they're in the same boat.
